A parent wishes to know how his school-going child is faring in his studies. He has his/her report card and knows that he/she is near the top of his/her class – but is not clear where he/she stands on a state-wide or nation-wide basis.

A State/Central School Board wishes to assess how effective their academic offering in the primary/secondary classes is, especially in the context of a new set of learning methodologies they have introduced. Are the students learning? How does their learning compare with that in other schools?

The aim of education is Surprisingly we rarely benchmark our efforts by trying to measure student learning. While evaluating teaching methodologies in a school or in the country why do we rely more on either our general feelings, or figures of enrolment and attendance, instead of trying to address the main question – are children learning better?

Part of the answer is that no validated tool or test is available today to measure student learning. One of Upskills Council’s goals is to develop such validated tools, which can provide accurate measures of at least certain aspects of student learning. Unified Council also wishes to increase the general awareness among schools and the teaching community, to improve the quality of testing and testing practices in the country. While testing, in this process we are motivating children to enhance their fundamental knowledge, concept clarity and problem solving skills.

UPSKILLS COUNCIL is working towards helping schools, teachers, students and parents get an exact picture of the level of scholastic skills of the students from Classes 1 to 10 in 6 different subjects through NOTSE (National Online Talent Search Exam). This is being achieved through our NOTSE Mathematics Olympiad (NMO), NOTSE English Olympiad (NEO) and NOTSE Cyber Olympiad (NCO) on the basis of extensive curriculum research, student achievement level analysis and definition of skill levels of Indian children across State, CBSE and ICSE boards.
